Project Description

The eMetCO2 project aims to develop an advanced and energy-efficient technology for the electrochemical conversion of CO2 into methanol (eCO2R), combining a novel eNetMIX-based electrochemical reactor with innovative electrocatalysts. The project also seeks to raise awareness of the potential of this innovative technology as an alternative CCUS approach, contributing to a cleaner, more sustainable, and secure energy transition.

Net4CO2 Role

As project coordinator, NET4CO2 is responsible for overseeing the overall project implementation and ensuring its effective execution. In collaboration with the University of Porto, NET4CO2 is also responsible for the development and characterization of the eNETmix prototype. NET4CO2 will also contribute to the development of the technology’s business and exploitation strategy, and support the techno-economic assessment of the proposed solution in close collaboration with all consortium partners.

Main Outcomes

  • Advanced electrocatalysts and electrodes, offering high efficiency and scalability.
  • Lab-scale prototype of an eNETmix-based electrolyser, for CO2 conversion into methanol.
  • Evaluate the circularity, environmental and socioeconomic impacts of the eNET-mix technology.
  • Promote close collaboration between the technology developers and the business partners, to assure the best outputs and uptake/integration of the new technology by the end-users.
  • Exploitation plan that takes the technology beyond the end of the project in terms of technology roadmaps, finance requirements and industrial/commercial opportunities.
