Project Description
This project aims to optimize CO2 dosing for pH control in water treatment plants, by developing a viable and commercial prototype using NET4CO2’s technology to improve mass transfer between water and CO2. In partnership with Águas do Douro e Paiva, the Lever Water Treatment Plant was selected for prototype validation, as the facility faces optimization challenges. The goal is to reduce CO2 consumption by enhancing the interaction between liquid and gas flows in the water neutralization process.
Main Outcomes
•Construction of a Prototype for the Water Neutralization: Prototype able to reduce the pH of up to 1 L/min of untreated water using CO2 with controlled automatic injection.
•Industrial Validation: Installation of prototype in Lever’s water treatment plant for validation at industrial setting, with a significant reduction in the CO2 consumption (up to 78%) when compared to current technology.
•Product Development and Commercialization: Development of a product based on validated prototype for the CO2 neutralization using a side-stream.
Intellectual Property
National patent submission: Patent focusing on the use of the technology to enhance dissolution rates and reducing CO2 consumption for water neutralization, with potential use in alternative direct injection uses (Application Number INPI 119696).
